Werner RothWerner Roth is the definitive artist of the formative years of the X-Men and its original team members, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel and Beast. Beginning work steadily on the title at issue 10, he shortly thereafter assumed Jack Kirby's duties on lead pencils and drew the team's earliest adventures on a run with few interruptions all the way through to issue 57 (with many of those stories run again during the reprint years of issues 67-93). Working under the pseudonym of "Jay Gavin", he also drew romance titles during the 1950s. While Roth made other contributions to Marvel during the Silver Age of comics, he is most widely recognized and renowned as the artistic force behind Professor X's adventurous band of merry mutants.
